TAQA Arabia signs MOU with Mauritania’s Ministry of Petroleum

In November 30, 2023, TAQA Arabia and Rosetta signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mauritania's Ministry of Petroleum, Energy and Mines, represented by H.E. Minister Abdel Salam Weld Mohamed Saleh.

This MoU signifies the beginning of a collaborative effort aimed at developing a comprehensive upstream and downstream gas and power value chain in Mauritania.

The primary focus of this partnership will be the development of the domestic gas market from the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) and Banda developments through the implementation of Gas to Power projects, LNG (liquefied natural gas), CNG (compressed natural gas), and exploration of other upstream development prospects.

 

This strategic collaboration paves the way for energy development in Mauritania and underlines TAQA's commitment to sustainable and integrated energy solutions.

 

The Minister of Oil, Mines and Energy, Abdessalam Mohamed Saleh, signed Tuesday in Nouakchott with Eng. Karim Shaaban, Managing Director of Rosetta, one of the subsidiaries of the “TAQA ARABIA” Group, a memorandum according to which the two parties undertake to carry out negotiations and studies.

 

This memorandum aims to conclude commercial agreements in various areas of cooperation, to conduct feasibility studies of gas projects, to develop a pipeline for transporting liquefied natural gas, to exchange data and information, and to create opportunities in the field of energy in Mauritania.

 

The ministry will also share data and information with “TAQA Arabia” to assess opportunities and determine them based on priorities, while this company will conduct studies and evaluate the development of gas fields, indicating that the two parties will cooperate to carry out a technical and commercial study around the possible feasibility of an LNG virtual pipeline.

 

The Minister of Oil, Mines and Energy affirmed that this cooperation will contribute to a large extent to developing Mauritania's gas resources, benefiting from the experience of this pioneering company.

 

He added that the government is keen to increase the contribution of the energy sector to the national economy, noting that his department will make every effort to provide appropriate conditions and attractive incentives for its development.

 

For his part, Mr. Karim Shaaban expressed his excitement about signing this memorandum, emphasizing the availability of his institution to partner with the ministry to develop energy infrastructure in Mauritania and thus play a major role in the development of local content in through the creation of employment opportunities and the transfer of know-how for the benefit of the local workforce.

In turn, Mr. Adly Kafafi, Vice President of "TAQA Arabia" for Africa, praised the signing of this memorandum, stressing that it will open new horizons for the company "TAQA ARABIA", in particular , in a country where all the data indicates that it will occupy a leading position in the energy markets in the future, given the enormous energy potential it has.
